Real estate appraisals for estate purposes are typically requested upon the death of a relative and the heirs are, usually at the bequest of an attorney or accountant, requesting a valuation of the real estate. Almost in all cases the date of death is also establishing the date of value and therefore a historical or past date value is needed, sometimes a few months or even a few years.
